150 Sounds of Queensland ~ Re-imagining the State’s Cultural and Natural Diversity through Sound~ Call for nominations Your “Soundscape” You are surrounded by sounds in your everyday life and in your community. Tell us the stories of the special sounds of your place and the people. - Sounds that reflect changes to the environment - Sounds that reflect the ways that people spend their time Tell us about - Living sounds - sounds you hear today, or everyday - Sounds that are changing, endangered or being lost - Sounds in memory - sounds from the past Would you like to preserve, or recreate, a sound from the life of your community? To celebrate the 150th anniversary of the Queensland’ Statehood (2009), we are compiling “150 Sounds of Queensland”, asking all Queenslanders to nominate a sound unique and important to your place and the community. The sound may be Category A: “Living Sound” (including endangered sounds) Category B: “Sound in memory” (sounds from the past)
The sounds should have social, cultural, historic or environmental meaning. You need to tell us why it should be saved for future generations and how you might do it. You can do this as a project with different focuses – history, culture, geography, environment, language, art. Nominations are open to all individuals and groups. Selected sounds will be professionally recorded and be included in the national sound archive. Re-imagine Queensland's natural and cultural diversity through sound.
